Trident looks back at 2024.

A look back at 2024.

Normally, Trident does the annual retrospective at the end of each year rather than the beginning. However, as it turned out, the annual December Holidays kicked out the order of our weekly Poseidon Post articles. Thus, the first Poseidon Post of 2025 is the yearly retrospective. Kinda works out though we scheme! Anyway, regardless of when it’s published this annual piece of nostalgia remains ever popular and as beloved as ever. Good on ya, readers, and welcome to 2025!

So as always, let’s take a deep dive into our retrospective look at 2024’s articles. The good, the bad, the ugly, the outrageous, the faintly cabbage-flavoured, the ones that go up to eleven, the ones banned by the EU, those articles expired by only a month or so past their sell-by dates, the few written in Klingon, the suspiciously SUP-friendly and everything in between.

A few waves like these in 2025 and nobody will complain.

Note, Trident has yet to write a single article with the assistance of AI. You, beloved reader – should be proud everything you’ve ever read on Trident Surf was created by actual human beings. And in one instance at least, by a highly intelligent gibbon.

Yoh, Trident thought 2023 was mental. That year had its wars, Rugby World Cup wins and consistent load shedding, but 2024 was wild bru. WILD. Elections for the US as well as for the RSA, and load shedding was weirdly chill in 2024. Which was really odd as everyone expected load shedding to be next level after last year’s national elections. Nonetheless, this all pales in comparison compared to the excitement, drama, duk-bek face and WSL sanctioned mid-year cuts affecting the global surfing community.

The GOAT.

So let’s remember these articles on; surfing competitively, as well as the GOAT’s retirement. Only 2024 will actually reveal if indeed King Kelly has scraped off his wax and kicked out for good. Spoiler alert: No matter what, the world hasn’t seen the last of Kelly Slater just yet, not by a long shot.

Hogs, seven deadly sins and weird names.

A huge series for Trident in 2024 was the awesome Seven Deadly Surfing Sins – which started with everyone’s favourite surfing sin – gluttony. Start reading them all again, starting with that beast; the hog.

Another worthy addition in the Top Five department was the tribute to some of Trident readers’ most innovative, most quirky and most interesting comments ever (not to mention their unique names). We love you guys, but suggest you should try wash yourselves more regularly. Check the article out here.

Speaking of Trident’s readers in the TTT department, here’s the final Festive Season flavoured tips from last year. Nice.

The Taglines page!

Also, Trident doesn’t punt it enough, but why not check out the Taglines page – to recall all the genius comments Trident updates as a website motto every week.

Also, Surf Science was no slouch in the articles department either last year – check out this important article on sorting your finances for surfing, as well as surfer tans. Also, check out this article on the concerning phenomenon of sand erosion right here.

But that’s it for 2024. We’ve completed yet another trip round that big ball of flaming hydrogen and other science stuff. We here at Trident wish you our readers – all the best for 2025. Klap it brah, and may this year (and every year for that matter) be happy and successful. Wishing you plenty of waves – but especially more waves for Trident compared to 2024. Aweh.
