Western Cape Region Surf Reports.

Region Overview: Plenty of big waves in this region, if your brain somehow never developed the sense of self preservation that evolved in many modern human beings. Cape Town is the surf hub of the region. In the west, the Atlantic water tends to be colder than a witch’s arse though, and many spots are more crowded than a Black Friday special at the nearest discount liquor store. Plenty of gems around, with some lesser known towns producing the goods more often than not.

The Garden Route has swell, but the wind is wobblier than your great aunty after klapping a few sherries in celebration of a week without a few sherries. The cape holds promise. Enough swell to delight and wind direction allows for exploration. That’s how Trident sees it at least.

Eastern Cape Region Surf Reports.

Region Overview: Some absurdly famous spots in this area, many of which feature on the international surfing pulse. So let’s not mention them again, because, unless you’ve been living in a bomb shelter in Alaska for the past five decades – you know exactly where they are. However, slap-bang in the middle of this wave nirvana, is Trident’s home base, Port Elizabeth, which is the surfing equivalent of a Participation certificate. Still the city does have waves. Occasionally.

J Bay & St Francis, Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) Area, Port Alfred, East London Area, Western Wild Coast:

This week Neptune says:

Well this past week showed most surfers in the Eastern Cape we still get waves. Sadly however, next week we’re back to the dreaded ‘k rating. Just lame. Not even bad enough to get all worked up and give it a lower rating. So, we dunno, try get some work done or finish the new PS5 Wolverine game or something productive at least.

Kwa-Zulu Natal Region Surf Reports.

Region Overview: The scene here is centred around Surf City, Durban. Abundant waves, warm water and clueless tourists visiting from inland. It’s one of the most crowded regions in South Africa, but travel a bit and you’ll be astounded by the lack of crowds you’ll find away from Durbs. Although the whole of South Africa constantly produces excellent surfers on the same level as it does good wine, gold, crime and boerewors, this region especially breeds talent. This is a result of the DNA of well known names like Jordy, Shaun and Frankie having leaked from their bodies and becoming permanently chemically bonded to the waters surrounding this stretch of coast. No, we can’t really back that up with any credible scientific evidence. But that’s Trident’s opinion and we shall stick with it.

This week Neptune says:

It looks okay by KZN standards. Yes, just okay, or in Trident parlance, ‘k. There’s swell for sure, but we’re liking those wind directions as much as crotch itch.
